Burgmann College investigation launched as residents fill uncontested ANUSA positions

EXCLUSIVE: Department of Probity & Justice director Jennifer Befferson has informed the Daley Mail of an upcoming investigation into potential meddling by Burgmann College in the ANUSA elections, following revelations that the majority of the 2019 executive has been appointed unopposed.

Key positions including President, Vice-President and a College of Law Representative will be awarded to both current and former residents of the self-proclaimed “No. 1 Catered College in Australia."

In an extensive High Court injunction application, Befferson has alleged that Burgmann College and Refresh ANUSA “conspired in intimidation and bribery of would-be candidates in order to secure ANUSA seats.”

Befferson has declined to publicise the motive she intends to submit, leading to accusations that Befferson is using this investigation for resumé-building. She has also failed to respond to The Daley Mail's questions regarding her absence from the General Representative candidate list.

In response to the allegations, Befferson posted a single tweet, stating simply: "I am a strong proponent of student exec glasnost and whistleblowing doesn't look that good on a CV anyway."

When contacted, the Burgmann Residents’ Association only issued a brief statement:

“Our residents know how to manage money, so we would of course be delighted to welcome their democratic and free-of-nepoti$m (sic.) appointment to Student Office.”

Refresh ANUSA offered a similarly short statement to our reporters, saying that instead of dwelling on the present, students “should be ready for an exciting 2019.”
